Showers, of All Kinds

I am feeling a bit grumpy today. I left for work this morning in a downright MONSOON. As soon as I stepped out my door and put up my umbrella, the wind broke said umbrella, which is fairly new. It's not unusable, but it is quite sad and defeated-looking now. The wind was pelting so hard that even if my umbrella had not actually broken, it would have proven useless anyway unless that "inside out umbrella" thing really does it for ya. The wind was so strong it was actually blowing me around the sidewalk, and I am not exactly lightweight these days. So I got to walk to the train while getting pelted by rain and blown all over the place. There are probably two occasions per year when I wish I had a car instead of having to walk/take public transportation, and today was one of them. And what it did to my poor hair - oh, the humanity!

Of course, this kind of rainy weather also made it nearly impossible to get out of bed this morning. I haven't been sleeping well lately (thanks, acid reflux, hip and back pain, and frequent bathroom trips!), but I was actually sleeping pretty soundly when wake-up time came around this morning. I seriously, seriously considered calling in sick, but my scruples forced me out of bed. Stupid scruples. Of course, then I had that aforementioned brutal walk to work and all I kept thinking to myself was, "I just do not get paid enough to be fighting the elements to get to this job." See? Grumpy. (And not untrue.)

I did get some more sleep on the train into the city, which is something, I guess. Honestly, I wish I could fall asleep nearly as quickly, easily and deeply in my bed at night as I do on the train to and from work every day. Yesterday I'm pretty sure I actually snored on my way home from work. It's only about a 15 minute train ride, but that was enough to get me snoring. And I regularly dream. Why does this not happen in my bed?!

BUT all this whining aside, I do have something I am very excited about: my baby shower next weekend! My sister Heather and cousin Molly are throwing the shindig (with some help from other dear people, too) and I'm heading down to Florida for the festivities (FLORIDA! Warmth! Sun!). This week, I got my invitation in the mail, so now it's all "official." My sweet sister even sent a separate invitation to Baby Girl, and it was about the cutest thing ever:

How sweet is that? It will make such a nice addition to Baby Girl's baby book!

I'm so excited for this shower! I can't wait to see so many people I love, including some that I haven't seen in quite some time. My cousin Molly is even flying down from Illinois for the weekend, so we can finally be two pregnant cousins together in one place (while Heather drinks wine, of course - she always just has to be different, doesn't she?). It's going to be great fun, and I'm so excited to have a celebration in honor of Baby Girl!

I guess that balances out my horrible morning, right? One shower makes up for another!
