Father's Day

Happy Father's Day! I hope you all are having a wonderful day celebrating those important men in your life. I'm blessed with several myself, two of whom I'm missing today - my dad and my grandpa. Happy Father's Day, Dad! We'll see you soon! And Happy Father's Day, Gramps! We love you!

As for the father that I live with, the kids and I are going to spend some time today making sure he knows just how much he is appreciated. I've been thinking a lot lately about just how lucky we are to have a man like Eric as the head of our household. I've had some extra time to watch Eric in action this week, as he has finished up his school year so has been home more, plus I've had jury work, so he's really taken charge of the parenting responsibilities the past few days. And he is awesome at it.

I love to watch Eric with our kids. I love to watch him immediately morph into Aladdin when Ellie dons her Jasmine pajamas, breaking out into a duet of "A Whole New World" with his little princess. I love to watch him fall to the ground when E.J. "tackles him" with a big hug. I love to watch him teach them things and read to them and get down on the floor and play with them. He is just so involved with everything they're doing, and you can tell by the deafening chorus of "Daddy's home! Hi, Daddy!" that rings out whenever he walks in the door that they just adore him. I'm so, so happy that my children are growing up with such a great dad, so eager to be such a major, positive presence in their lives.

I also know how much Eric has had our needs in mind lately as we work to figure out the next steps for our family. His temporary teaching license has expired, so it's time to move on, and I know that as Eric considers all of his options, what is best for our kids is a top priority. I admire him and his dedication to finding a plan of action that is best for our family as a whole. He is a great provider and an exceptional partner in our marriage and in parenthood and I am so blessed to be his wife.

Thank you, Eric, for all you do for us. We could never fully express how much you mean to all of us. Thank you for our family and our life together. We love you.

Curls!

We tried putting curlers in Ellie's hair for the first time last night, something I remember doing myself on many-a-Saturday-night during my childhood. The result: pretty little ringlets for Sunday morning church!

Ellie was so pleased and looked so lovely. Of course, she went outside to play during "children's church" and the humidity took their tragic toll on those curly locks, but for about an hour, she had the "Merida hair" of her dreams!
